Uchumi Supermarkets

Uchumi Supermarkets Ltd has the largest retail network in the country. Currently, Uchumi operates 16 retail supermarkets and Hyper stores in Nairobi, Kericho, Karatina, Eldoret and Meru. These consist of 13 supermarkets and four hyper stores.

There are few Kenyans who have never been to an Uchumi supermarket, even fewer still who have never heard of one. For a corporation that was set up only in 1976, its impact on the national consciousness and the multiplier effect it has on the Kenyan economy is tremendous.

Uchumi caters for the needs of Kenyans across a wide of social stratus from the low to high income groups. Uchumi is credited with introducing the specialty shops concept whereby its partners have provided their services within a shop. As the term denotes, the partners have an inbuilt capacity to provide specialized services and products. The specialty partners cover a wide range of areas including laundry services, in store banking, courier services, gifts, pharmacy, textiles, footwear, photo processing amongst others.
